Traditional and classical details shape a property designed for a modern family with young children. In a close collaboration with architect William H. Childs + Assoc., the building and landscape were conceived out of a unified design aesthetic centered on timeless materials and expert craftsmanship. Entry is achieved over a detailed sandstone bridge with patterned brick inlays with a glimpse of the landmark stone home beyond. A carved stone compass inlay grounds the entry court and expresses the cardinal directions. The rear landscape is arranged with plantings and substantial timber framed pergolas flanking a heated pool and spa. A stone terrace surrounds. Graceful iron railings crafted by a local artisan trace the pool and spa, and a fire ring flanked by Adirondack chairs extends the space’s seasonality.
